Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Skipton on Swale, North Yorkshire
Make Space were appointed to develop site design proposals from inception through to completion for a new air base facility for Yorkshire Air Ambulance. We worked closely with the wider design team to develop proposals that met the clients unique and exacting brief.
The landscape scheme developed included arrival and parking areas, a garden space for staff members use throughout the day and when off duty, and the functional heli-pad area to the rear of the hanger.
Proposed materiality and detailing was inspired by both the industrial design of the air hanger itself, and the vernacular of the surrounding agricultural landscape, using raw galvanised steel finishes, and both poured and unitised concrete paving materials. Planting was inspired by the species rich wide grass verges to the surrounding lanes, well established hedgerows and tree species of particular relevance to the locale, notably Sycamore and Oak.
